When Is National Cat Day?

National Cat Day is celebrated annually on October 29th in the United States, and August 8th in Canada. It’s also sometimes called National Kitty Day or simply, Cat Day. The Oct 29 holiday began in 2005 in order to help promote rescues and adoptions of homeless cats as well as to celebrate and acknowledge domesticated cats’ companionship. Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige originally founded the holiday which has now been celebrated for over a decade.

  5. Donate to their feline friends. Not all cats are as lucky as your pet on Cat Day. Show your cat solidarity by donating to local cat and animal rescue groups or other animal welfare organizations.
  6. Make something to celebrate. If you’re anything like us, you probably have tons of unused photos of your cat. A great way to both celebrate National Cat Day and to make something special with your furry friend is to create a cat photo album. These are perfect ways to showcase your instagram classics or to create the story of your pet’s adoption.
  7. Adopt a new companion. What’s a better way to celebrate National Cat Day than giving a loving home to a feline in need? If you have space in your life for a new companion, the best gift you can give is a second chance to a cat in need.
